Separator and Interceptor Alarms

Interceptors must be provided with a robust device to provide visual and audible warnings when the level of oil reaches 90% of the oil storage volume under static liquid level conditions.

Interceptors (separators) are typically installed in drainage systems below ground.  They are designed to trap oil and other hydrocarbons that have entered drains, preventing pollution incidents. If oil, silt or liquid reaches excessive levels, oil can pass through the interceptor and pollute watercourses which may result in expensive fines and clean up costs for the owner.
Darcy manufacture automated interceptor monitors that warn of excessive liquid levels.  They are fitted, tested and commissioned and serviced by our team of competent installers.
Automated interceptor monitors reduce the visits made by waste management contractors, ensuring that waste waters are only removed when pollutant levels are high.  They reduce cost affiliated to waste management due to a reduction in disposal frequency.  Interceptor alarms assure that the interceptor volumes are not breached in between labour intensive visual or dip sampling audits.
What they monitor:
  • Hydrocarbon levels using conductivity or density reading methods
  • Silt levels using optical reading methods
  • High/Low liquid content using optical or float reading methods
Benefits of automated interceptor monitors
  • Prevention of hydrocarbon pollution in water courses and water treatment work
  • Reduction in waste water removal and associated costs
  • Compliance to Environment Agency and European Standards
Summary:
Both the European Standard & Environment Agency have concluded that the ‘Best Practice’ method of monitoring interceptors is on an automated basis. This ensures the following:
  • Minimum use of waste management infrastructure
  • Minimum spend on waste management and disposal
  • Assurance that the site interceptors are working correctly
  • Least reliance on the human element of visual and dip sampling
  • Assured compliance to the relevant guidelines and standards
Assure compliance to relevant guidelines and standards, minimise use of waste management infrastructure and minimise spend on waste management and disposal. Click below for more information on the types of interceptor monitors available.
