Oil Storage Regulations
The Oil Storage Regulations require anyone in England who stores more than 200 litres of oil to provide secure containment facilities for tanks, drums and mobile bowsers to prevent oil escaping into the environment.
Ensure compliance to the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001
If these regulations apply to your organisation you will be aware that it is the responsibility of your company and the person concerned with environmenal protection to make sure that your oil storage facilities and control of storage comply with all relevant legislation.
The environment is protected by legislation and there are numerous standards and regulations enforced by government agencies to ensure these regulations are met. There are strict penalties for non-compliance. For example, failure to comply with the Environment Agency’s regulations on oil storage is a criminal offence and may result in prosecution. You could also be fined up to £5,000.
