Properties

The requirements of a high duty bonding and coating medium for refractory bricks are met by the properties of Brickseal Bond namely:

  • High refractoriness
  • Very high mechanical strength of bond
  • Excellent resistance to thermal shock, abrasion, flame impingement and arduous combustion chamber conditions.
  • Flexibility at high temperature to permit expansion and contraction of brickwork and to withstand vibration.
  • Thinnest possible joints.

Brickseal Bond will improve the performance and prolong the life of refractory bricks. It can be used with all fireclay grog and high alumina bricks, where the silica content is below 75%.

Experience has proved that whilst bonding bricks into a near monolithic structure, Brickseal Bond will permit the necessary “movement“ under expansion and contraction without jeopardising the strength of bond and this feature alone materially lengthens brickwork life.

Brickseal Bond is an air setting refractory cement supplied in powder form with an indefinite shelf life. It is mixed with water to form a slurry and develops a ceramic set with rising temperature, attaining a full ceramic set at 980°C (1800°F).

Brickseal Bond is widely used in industrial applications where increasingly arduous conditions imposed on boilers and furnaces by present day fuels demand the highest possible quality bonding and coating cement. It not only provides tight joints of maximum strength which are resistant to salts and alkalis present in combustion gases but also imparts a dense and highly refractory protective barrier to the brickwork face as a further safeguard.

Recommended uses

As a ramming cement for plugging bolt holes in the tin bath bottom in float glass plants.  Where heavy abrasion and flame impingement occurs, two coats of brickseal bond may be used or consideration given to an additional coating of brickseal h.t. coat.

Brickseal Bond is commonly used in the following industry:-

  • Float glass production
