Mercury Indicator Powder

Mercury indicator powder is a simple way to check if surfaces are contaminated with mercury.  The indicator powder reacts with mercury vapour turning darker if mercury is detected.

Applications

• Use to sprinkle onto surfaces suspected of being contaminated with mercury, such as floors, work surfaces, cupboard tops in labs, dental surgeries, buildings for reclamation etc. 

How it works

• Sprinkle the powder onto the surface and leave for 24 hours.  If mercury is detected the powder will change colour.  The area can then be decontaminated using our Mercury Spill Kit (see page 28).  If no mercury is present the powder can be cleaned away with a damp paper towel.
