Bund Reling and Protection
Ensure bund integrity with our bund inspection and maintenance service
THE CONTROL OF POLLUTION (OIL STORAGE) REGULATIONS 2001 REQUIRES THAT SECONDARY CONTAINMENT (BUNDS) MUST HAVE THE INTEGRITY AND CAPACITY TO CONTAIN A SPILL OR LEAK SHOULD ONE OCCUR.
PPG 2 outlines that such bunds must be sound and they must be protected with an impenetrable lining.
To ensure bund integrity, imperviousness to liquid contents and that they form an effective part of the PIRP, it is essential that they are inspected regularly and that any defects identified in the bund wall or lining are repaired promptly. It is imperative that any draw-off or fill pipes that pass through the bund wall are adequately sealed. It is also important that they are regularly emptied and cleaned to maintain the bund capacity.
WE OFFER A FULL RANGE OF BUND MAINTENANCE PACKAGES, WHICH INCLUDE:
- Inspection and cleaning
- Surface decontamination
- Bund wall and substrate repairs
- Bund wall and substrate preparation
- Bund specific sealing and coating systems

INSTALLATION OF THE LININGS
HDPE lining installation
High Density Polyethylene is a polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum, with a high overall chemical resistance, that is a cost effective solution to lining of both large and small bunded areas.
The HDPE that is most commonly used by Darcy on our projects is a 2mm thick geo-membrane. HDPE is commonly used within landfill applications, therefore is designed to provide a proven solution for your storage containment needs on site. As well as the advantage of being extremely durable, and cost effective, HDPE can be retrofitted to numerous applications. A brief overview of the installation service we offer is as follows:-
- The HDPE is installed, heat welded on site by our team of installation engineers, re-tested and then certified after installation.
- We further enhance the protection provided by the HDPE, by finally installing a geo-textile cover onto the liner, as well as recommending 50mm of pea gravel be installed for H & S purposes.
- When the installation is complete, we the undertake 2 x 12hr water tests on the material to ensure that the material has been installed correctly and therefore serves its purpose.
- Upon completion, we provide full installation certification, water testing completion certification, handover documents and liner specification sheets for your health & safety files.
Higher performance resin installation
We offer a full range of high performance resin systems to suit a wide range of applications. The systems are all fully bonded, many are flexible offering crack bridging capabilities. The resins which are liquid applied cure to form a seamless lining impermeable to oil and water (chemical resistant where applicable).
As well as being an excellent alternative to HDPE lining, our resin system range can be finished in a variety of colours to suit each job on a site by site basis.
The works include:
- Preparation of existing concrete and joints within all bunded areas to enable the application of our liner.
- Isolated concrete repairs using low density polymer mortar.
- Application of a flexible, oil and water resistant finish to the bund to provide an impermeable surface in line with the Oil Storage Regulations.
- If required by the client, we are able to provide integrity testing on the bund (with certification) to meet the required standards for the bunded area(s).
- Upon completion, we provide full installation certification, water testing completion certification, handover documents and resin data sheets and
specification sheets for your health & safety files.
